Ernestina Echavarria

Ernestina Echavarria, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 28th, 2019, in her 101st year. Born July 7th, 1918 in Dabeiba, Antioquia, Colombia. Ernestina is survived by her seven children, her six grandchildren, and her three great-grandchildren. Those who had the privilege to meet Ernestina, immediately fell in love with her. She considered everyone family, and in her earlier years cared for many children who refer to her as their second grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with others and was delighted to have visitors stop by her home and play her favorite board game of Parqués. If she wasn’t home, she was out riding in the passenger side, excited to go … “wherever the car will take us”, as she would say. She enjoyed outings, going to shopping centers and participating in the activities at the “Over Sixty Club”, in Stamford. But her favorite was to travel, Ernestina had amazing traveling experiences, some of her destinations (just to name a few) included, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Niagara Falls, and her beloved home, Colombia which at 101 years, she flew first class this past May. The family is beyond grateful to all of those who took the time to visit Ernestina and demonstrate so much love and kindness towards her, it truly bought her so much happiness to be surrounded by folks who just loved listening to her stories and jokes. The family invites all family and friends to a Mass on Tuesday, October 1st at 11am at St. Benedict – Our Lady of Montserrat 1 St Benedict Circle, in Stamford, CT. Spanish: Ernestina Echavarria, falleció pacíficamente el Sábado 28 de Septiembre de 2019, con 101 años. Nació el 7 de Julio de 1918 en Dabeiba, Antioquia, Colombia. A Ernestina le sobreviven sus siete hijos, sus seis nietos y sus tres bisnietos. Aquellos que tuvieron el privilegio de conocer a Ernestina, inmediatamente se enamoraron de ella. Ella consideraba a todos como miembros de la familia. En sus primeros años de estar en este país, ella cuidaba de muchos niños que se refieren a ella como su segunda abuela. Ella disfrutó de pasar tiempo con otros y estaba encantada de que la visitaran a su casa y jugar a su juego de mesa favorito de Parqués. Si no estaba en casa, ella le encantaba salir y andar, emocionada de ir ... "donde nos lleve el carro", como ella diría. Le gustaban las salidas, ir a centros comerciales y participar en las actividades en el "Over Sixty Club", en Stamford. Pero su favorita era viajar, Ernestina tuvo increíbles experiencias de viaje, algunos de sus destinos (sólo por nombrar algunos), Puerto Rico, República Dominicana, Cataratas del Niágara, y su amado, Colombia que a los 101 años, voló en primera clase el pasado mes de Mayo. La familia está más que agradecida a todos aquellos que se tomaron el tiempo para visitar a Ernestina y demostrar tanto amor y bondad hacia ella, que realmente le hizo mucha felicidad estar rodeada de gente que simplemente amaba escuchar sus historias y chistes. La familia invita a todos a una misa el Martes,1 de Octubre a las 11am en San Benito – Nuestra Señora de Montserrat 1 San Benito Circle, en Stamford, CT.
