Helen Ueberbacher

Helen Ueberbacher, resident of Stamford, CT, passed away peacefully at her home on the evening of Monday, August 6, 2018. Helen was born in LaCrosse, WI on December 2, 1919 to the late Harold and Rosalie (Fraley) Brunk. She was 98 years old at the time of her passing. Helen graduated from DePaul University in 1942, and went on to earn her Masters from Fairfield University. She concentrated on displaced homemakers for career counseling. She gained business experience in executive offices of local corporations. She was the founder of Learning in Retirement, gathering members for lectures on diverse topics and respectful debates. She was a lifelong learner, talented artist, musician and author. She enjoyed playing bridge, spending time with her grandchildren and playing sports including dancing, skiing, golf and hiking. She was always busy with a project, whether it be needlework, knitting, puzzles and reading, all keeping her mind active. She participated in many community volunteer activities including AAUW, American Association for the Blind taping books, and delivering emergency supplies for Americares. She enjoyed travel, particularly to museums and national parks. Helen appreciated the culture Stamford offered, enjoying the symphony, Curtain Call and Bartlett performances. Helen was predeceased by her husband Ralph L. Ueberbacher and daughter Terry Humiston. She is survived by her children: Mark Ueberbacher of Stamford, Amy Gillis and her husband Jack of Fairfield, Bob Ueberbacher and his wife Pat of Bethlehem, CT. Five grandchildren: Michelle Rissolo, Ken Rissolo Jr., Karl Ueberbacher, Erika Ueberbacher and Janet Halkowycz. Six great grandchildren: Phoenix Rodden, Liam Rodden, Grace Rissolo, Alexander Halkowycz, William Halkowycz and Sebastian Halkowycz. Helen’s family will receive the sympathy and condolences of friends and family on Sunday, August 12th from 3pm to 6pm at Bosak Funeral Home, 453 Shippan Avenue, Stamford, CT, 06902. A mass of Christian burial will take place on Monday, August 13th at 10:30am at The Church of the Holy Spirit, 403 Scofieldtown Rd, Stamford, CT 06903. A reception will follow at Holy Family hall. In lieu of flowers Helen's family would appreciate donations in her memory to: Curtain Call, 1349 Newfield Ave., Stamford, CT or Americares Foundation, 88 Hamilton Ave., Stamford, CT.
