Gene Simoneau

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gene J. Simoneau, Sr. Gene passed away peacefully at St. Vincent's Medical Center with his loving family by his side at the age of 72. Gene grew up in Stamford, CT and graduated from Rippowam High School in 1970. He and his family moved to Monroe, CT 28 years ago. Gene was the beloved husband of Barbara Simoneau whom he cherished for 53 years. He was a devoted father to his children, Gene Simoneau, Jr. and his fiancé, Stacey Smith, Danielle Bruggeman and her husband, Marc, and Marci Barrett and her husband, Kyle. One of the greatest joys in his life was being with his grandchildren, Ashley, Kevin, Mackenzie, Jaxson and Madison, who loved and admired Poppy as much as he loved and admired them. He will also be greatly missed by his sister and brother- in-laws, Andrea and Tab Kocak and Jeff Karbonic, and by his nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Gene was a letter carrier in Stamford for 10 years before joining the Stamford Police Department; he retired in 2018 after serving the City for 38 years. He served in the CT National Guard from 1970 until 1976. He was a proud member of the Port 5 National Association of Naval Veterans, Stamford German Club, the Blue Knights CT Chapter 11, the VFW, American Legion, Knights of Columbus Council 41, and the Elks. You could always catch Gene with a smile on his face whether he was vacationing with his family or cheering for his kids and grandkids on and off the field. He was always so proud to be able to take Barb to Aruba and spoil her at Kay’s Family Jewelers. He is predeceased by his parents, Jean and Mary Simoneau, his brothers, Eddie and Richie Simoneau, his father and mother- in-law, John and Eileen Damiani, and his sister-in-law, Diane Karbonic. “Thanks for the times that you’ve given me, the memories are all in my mind, and now that we’ve come to the end of our rainbow, there’s something I must say out loud.” You are my special angel through eternity I'll have my special angel here to watch over me. The family would like to especially thank the congestive heart failure clinic, the ICU nurses and doctors at St. Vincent’s Medical Center who took great care of Gene until his very last moments. Friends and family may call from 4pm to 8pm on Friday, March 28th at the Bosak Funeral Home, 453 Shippan Ave, Stamford, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated will be at 11am on Saturday, March 29th at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 325 Washington Boulevard, Stamford, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Blessed Sacrament Church, 275 Union Avenue, Bridgeport, CT.
