Josephine A. LaMotta

Josephine A. LaMotta, resident of Stratford, CT, passed away peacefully at Bridgeport Hospital, August 25, 2018. Josephine was born in Bridgeport, CT, on February 5, 1942, to the late Gaetano and Maria Concetta (Mannino) LaMotta. She was 76 years old at the time of her passing. Known as “Bepa” to her family and “Jo” to many friends, Josephine graduated from Warren Harding High School in Bridgeport in 1959. Taking advantage of her excellent secretarial skills, Josephine became a school secretary for the City of Bridgeport Board of Education, working at Black Rock School and Blackham School. Upon her retirement from the City of Bridgeport, Josephine worked for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Bridgeport, Office for Education as the secretary for the Superintendent of Schools. She retired from the Diocese in 2008. Josephine is survived by her close cousin, Rosalie LaMotta Donlon and family, Thomas J. Donlon, Deirdre B. Donlon, and Shannon R. Donlon. She is also survived by many cousins across the U.S. and in Italy. She was predeceased by her sister Mary P. LaMotta in 2000. Josephine loved to travel with friends, making trips to California, Switzerland, England and Italy, among other places. She was always interested in the world around her, and she loved technology. Josephine embraced computers early, and she was always interested in the latest gadgets. If you opened a gift that lit up at Christmas, you knew it came from Jo, even without reading the tag. The family wants to thank Gloria and Bob Whyland and Amy Kostzewski Sakowicz and Emma Sakowicz, the best neighbors anyone could have, for all the help and care they gave Josephine. Josephine’s family will receive the sympathy and condolences of friends and family on Wednesday, August 29th from 4pm to 8pm at Bosak Funeral Home, 453 Shippan Avenue, Stamford, CT, 06902. A mass of Christian burial will take place on Thursday, August 30th at 10am at Our Lady Star of the Sea, 1200 Shippan Avenue, Stamford, CT 06902. Interment will follow at St. Michaels Cemetery, 2205 Stratford Avenue, Stratford, CT 06615.
