Peter A Vita

Peter A. Vita, 80, of Port Chester, New York, died March 7, 2026. He was born August 15, 1945 in Port Chester to the late Antonio Vita and Antonietta (Fava) Vita. He was raised and educated in Port Chester. Pete worked as an auto body painter at Fairway Auto Body in Mamaroneck for 35 years. After retiring, he served the community as a crossing guard for the middle and high school for 15 years, earning the distinction of Crossing Guard of the Year twice. In his spare time, Pete liked to tinker around on computers. He also had a deep love for golf, which he greatly enjoyed. One of his greatest passions, however, was his fish tanks. He spent countless hours learning the delicate art of balancing and maintaining them, carefully creating beautiful aquatic environments—something that requires patience, knowledge, and dedication. Pete was naturally drawn to the calm and beauty of the water. Those who knew Pete will remember him most for his warm smile and gentle spirit. He was known as a thoughtful, understanding, and compassionate man, a truly gentle soul who treated others with kindness and respect. He is survived by his devoted wife, Carol. He is also survived by his children Toni (Leo), Anthony (Lucille), and Michael (Amy). In addition, he is survived by stepchildren Renee (Dominick), Joseph, and Stephen. Pete was blessed to have so many grandchildren, including Maria, Victoria (Justin), Nicholas, Christina, Gianna, Olivia, Kylie, Jonah, Chyna, Tara, and Lee. He was also fortunate to live to see and cherish his beloved great-grandchildren, Fabian, Santana, Greyson, Rowen, and Molly. Pete was predeceased by his brothers Orazio Vita, Anthony Vita, and Angelo Vita, and by his sister Nancy Cursiel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 14th at 10 a.m. at Corpus Christi Church in Port Chester, New York. Pete will be remembered by all who knew him for the quiet kindness he shared, the warmth of his smile, and the gentle way he made those around him feel welcome and valued. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
