Virginia "Ginny" Dohrmann

Ginny Dohrmann passed away December 18, 2020 peacefully at home in Fairfield, CT after a prolonged illness at the age of 85. We were very blessed that she had a full-time, live-in care giver, Sylvia Tokarski, who took very good care of her and made her life as pleasant as possible for the past 3 years. She was born in Orange, New Jersey to Jesse and Janet McCullen and grew up in Maplewood, New Jersey with her twin sister, Joan and her half-brothers William and Donald McCullen. She attended Hood College in Frederick, MD and married her college sweetheart Walter J. Dohrmann on September 7, 1956 before leaving for Heidelberg, Germany where he served in the U.S. Army and they started their family. Once back from Germany they lived in Fairfield and Trumbull, CT and added 2 more children to their family before heading back to Germany for two more years and then settled back in Trumbull for many years, moved to Westport, Chicago-area and settled back in Shelton, CT where they lived for many years. Ginny had a very fierce and competitive spirit which showcased her at her best in her teenage sport team years, cheerleading, horseback riding (in college), tennis, bowling and ultimately led to her mastering the game of golf. She loved the game and she practiced driving, putting, sand traps, etc. diligently until she was ready to play 9 holes. She then graduated to playing 18 holes and had a very envious handicap by the time she started playing at Brooklawn Country Club. Her family will remember her most for her perseverance and intentional spirit during difficult health issues that spanned decades, her love of us, her clever and witty way of dealing with issues as well as her eagerness to learn about all the new technology that was becoming available … there wasn’t anything she couldn’t teach herself about new innovations and master quickly. Ginny is survived by family that loved her and will miss her interactive wit and charm. Her children, Kristine Podber and her husband Barry, Patty Cookson, Gary Dohrmann & his wife Donna and Jeannine Salveson and her husband Tom. Her grandchildren: Lauren & Trevor Podber, Avery, Andrew & Maddy Salveson, Michael & Lindsey Cookson. Her great grandchildren: Harvey and Chole Podber. She is also survived by her sister Joan Bird and family, her sister-in-law Cheryl McCullen and family, her brother-in-law Alfred Schutte and family as well as many nephews and nieces and their families. Burial with be a private family event.
