Virginia M. Martylewski

Virginia M. Martylewski, a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, of Norwalk, CT, passed away peacefully in her home on Tuesday, July 21, 2026 with her family by her side. She was born on December 30, 1924, in Stamford, CT. Virginia was 101-1/2 years old at the time of her passing. She always added that “1/2” when anyone asked her age! Virginia is survived by her daughter, Karen Martylewski, of Milford, CT, her son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Debra Martylewski, her granddaughters, Amber Martylewski and Deena Martylewski, Deena’s fiancé, Anthony Purcell, her great grandson, Brayden Purcell, her ever faithful family pet, King, all of Norwalk, CT and several nieces and nephews. Brayden (15 months) was the apple of his Grandma’s eye, and she lovingly called him her “Peanut”. Brayden would lie very contently in his Grandma’s arms and she would rock him to sleep while singing Rock A Bye Baby, Itsy Bitsy Spider and A Bushel and a Peck. Grandma got to see Brayden take his first steps which is what she hoped for. Virginia was a hard worker throughout her life. She worked in the Yale & Town Pocketbook Factory, and Petro’s on the assembly line, both in Stamford, CT during the 1930’s-1940’s. In the 1980’s she worked at Harrell’s, a small electronics factory in Norwalk, CT as a solderer. In between those times she was a homemaker taking care of her children. Virginia loved her home and spending time with her family. She loved decorating inside for all the holidays, especially during Christmas, putting out all her many snowmen that she collected through the years. The Christmas Tree Shop was her favorite place to go and would always find something to add to that collection. And, in the Spring, she loved planting her favorite flowers in her garden. Virginia enjoyed going to the casino with her friends to play Bingo or to try her luck on the penny slots. And she always was a winner! When she was at home, she would play Bingo and other games on her IPad for hours, or look through the many photos that Karen had saved. She and Karen loved going on vacations together, either flying to Disney World or bus trips to Maine, Vermont, Rhode Island, Niagara Falls, Canada, Atlantic City, and Ocean City, NJ just to mention a few. Among Virginia’s other hobbies was crocheting. She made beautiful doilies and afghans, which now are priceless heirlooms. Virginia was predeceased by her husband, Edward Martylewski, two wonderful dogs, Ringo & Alfie, her mom and stepdad, Sophie & John Braun, her father, Steve Koda, and two brothers, Larry Koda (& Agnes) and Edward Koda (& Lucille.) Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 26th from 2:00pm to 6:00pm at Bosak Funeral Home & Cremation, 453 Shippan Avenue, Stamford, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 27th at 10:00am at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 325 Washington Boulevard, Stamford, CT. Interment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, 25 Camp Avenue, Darien, CT.
