Henry G. Ryba, 96, a longtime resident of Riverside, CT, peacefully passed away at his home on the afternoon of Sunday, May 17, 2015 with his family by his side. Henry was born in Stamford, CT on October 23, 1918 and was one of four children born to the late Frank and Stella (Cygan) Ryba. Henry is a member of what is commonly referred to today as the greatest generation of Americans. He grew up during the great depression. For a while, the family children lived on a farm in Kent, CT where Henry attended a one room schoolhouse. Later, he attended and graduated from Stamford High School. Henry was patriotic and very proud of his service to his country. During World War II he spent 3 years overseas in the China, Burma and India Theater of War as First Sergeant of the U.S. Army's 886th Signal Company. After the War, he worked at Electrolux Corporation in Old Greenwich as a factory foreman and later as Superintendent of Manufacturing. Henry was an avid reader and had a photographic memory. He had a passion for the outdoors and for fishing and camping with his family. He spent his life devoted to and caring for his wife of 68 years and helping his family in every way possible. Most of all, Henry loved his family. He is survived by his children, Mark Ryba (Debbie), Brian Ryba (Mary), Janice Ryba Fischer and Beth Milton (Paul), six grandchildren: Jeffrey, Emily, Kyle, Brooke, Madeline and Anna Sophia, and three step-grandchildren, Tara, Kelly and Bridget. He will be sorely missed by all. Besides his parents, Henry was preceded in death by four months of his beloved wife, Bertha, and his siblings; Mary Romsky, Rudy Ryba and Selma Yackulics. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 21st at 11am at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 325 Washington Blvd., in Stamford. The committal service and interment will immediately follow Mass at St. Mary R.C. Cemetery in Greenwich.
