Joseph Anthony Frattaroli passed away on January 12, 2022, at the age of 79, in his hometown of Stamford, Connecticut surrounded by his family. Joe, best known as “Joe Fratt” or “Big Joe” to his family and friends, was born on October 28, 1942, to the late Joseph and Carmella (LaGuardia) Frattaroli. Joe was born and raised in Stamford and attended Stamford Public Schools graduating from Stamford High School in 1960, where he was an integral part of the Black Knights football program, earning recognition as an All-State tackle. While recruited to play football for the likes of Duke, Clemson and WestPoint, Joe attended The University of Maryland on an academic scholarship and graduated in 1965 as captain of their football team. Joe married Jean Ann Caporizzo in 1965 after several years of visiting Jean’s family home under the guise of doing homework with Joe’s best friend and Jean’s older brother, Bob Caporizzo. Joe is survived by his wife of 57 years, children and grandchildren: Jean A. Frattaroli; Robyn Santagata and her children Jessica and Kelsey; David and Laura Frattaroli and their children Christian and Caden; Susan and Mike Robinson and their children Jack, Connor and Kate; and Kevin and Jodi Frattaroli and their children Cayla, Jake, Janie and Ella. Joe is also survived by his brother Carmen Frattaroli and his wife Betsy, of Beverly, Massachusetts. Joe coached various youth sport teams for his children over the years. He was an active member and past president of the Old Timers Association, past president of The Zoning Board of Appeals, past president of the Italian Center, as well as a member of the IC’s Board of Directors. Joe’s grandchildren love “Pop” dearly. Whether he was attending Grandparent’s Day at nursery school, cheering them on at their respective sporting events, plays and school concerts, or just enjoying their antics in the backyard, he loved spending time with his grandchildren. His love and devotion will always be imprinted on their hearts. Visitation hours will be held Tuesday, January 18, 2022, from 3pm to 7pm at Bosak Funeral Home, 453 Shippan Avenue, in Stamford.
