Margaret (Peggy) A. Race, 81, of Stamford, Connecticut, passed away February 25, 2022, and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Peggy was born in Brooklyn, NY on September 15, 1940 to William E. and Margaret C. May. She grew up in Long Island, NY and spent many years there raising her children before moving to Darien, CT, and then to New York City. One of Peggy’s proudest accomplishments was graduating from Smith College with a degree in Art History while in her 40’s, then working for Sotheby’s Auction House starting as a receptionist and ending her career years later as their Director of Protocol. Peggy lived for many years in New York City, reveling in her independence and love of the city until the symptoms of Alzheimer’s robbed her of ability to live the life she cherished. She is survived by her children Margaret K. Belmont, Thomas (Gabriella) Nastasi, Anthony (Caroline) Nastasi, and Melissa (Tony) Benick, grandchildren Franklin, Gabriela and Victoria Nastasi, Lauren and Emily Benick, and Izabella and Brigitta Nastasi, sisters Barbara (Eugene) Stern, Patty (Frank) Zeigon, and Bonnie (Bill) Sanders as well as several nieces and nephews. Peggy was predeceased by her parents, William E. and Margaret C. May, brother William E. May Jr., daughter Alexandra M. Nastasi, and grandson Anthony A. Belmont. A gathering of friends and family to celebrate and honor the life of Peggy will be held at Bosak Funeral Home, 453 Shippan Avenue, in Stamford, CT, on March 17th from 10am - 12pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Peggy’s memory to The Alzheimer’s Association, alz.org.
