Maria Reyes

Maria Reyes, 62, of Stamford, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2023. She was born in Medellin, Colombia, to Margarita Escobar and the late Huberto Escobar on February 28, 1961. Maria was predeceased by her husband, Pedro Reyes. Maria was a beautiful human being, filled with love for her family and, most importantly, the Lord. Maria suffered from hydrocephalus from birth, making life very challenging. Her faith and love of the Lord helped her overcome a difficult life. Her life was nothing short of a miracle. Doctors proclaimed that she would not live beyond the age of 12. Against all odds and with the blessings of the Lord, Maria lived happily for an additional 50 years. Maria’s joy for life and love of the Lord resonated with everyone she met. Her physical challenges never dimmed her vibrant spirit and radiant smile. Anyone who met Maria was always greeted with a warm smile and one of many Bible verses committed to memory. Reading the Bible and attending church brought her the most joy. She was a vessel of the Lord’s word. She loved writing stories and Bible verses that she would share with friends and strangers alike. Spending time with family and hearing a good joke always brightened her day; she loved to laugh. Maria is survived by her loving mother, Margarita Escobar; sister, Margarita (Jorge) Arenas; brother, Rafael (Barbara) Escobar; nieces, Katie (Juan) Pabon and Payton Escobar; nephews, Chris Arenas, Stephen Arenas, and Kaiden Escobar; and grandnephew, Nicolas Pabon. Maria is where she always dreamed of being, in the presence of our Lord. She can now walk on the sand and run like the wind. We thank the Lord for letting us have you in our lives. We love you so much; you will always be in our hearts. A Funeral Service will be celebrated on Thursday, June 1, 2023, at 11am at Bethany Church, 2 Scofieldtown Road, Stamford, CT. Burial will be at Fairfield Memorial Park, 230 Oaklawn Avenue Stamford, CT.
