Sergio Ramos Sr.

October 7, 1931 - September 17, 2015

Sergio Ramos Sr. 83, long time resident of Stamford, Ct., was called home to the Lord on Thursday, September 17, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 7, 1931 in San Sebastián (Barrio de Cibao), Puerto Rico and was the son of the late Ramon Ramos and Maria E. Velez. Sergio is survived by his beloved wife; Adelaida (Aida) Ramos, seven children; Evelyn William (David) of Phoenix, AZ, Yolanda Lucy Ramos (Juan Morales) of Stamford, Sergio Ramos Jr (Margie) of Stamford, Rosemarie Morales (Fernando) of Stamford, Caroline Otero (Roberto) of Norwalk, Maria Reyes (Roberto) of Stamford and Evelyn Ramos-Zecena (Guilmar) of Stamford, 17 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers; Ernesto Ramos of Tampa, FL and Luis Ramos of Rochester, NY and two sisters; Blanca Robles of San Sebastián, PR, and Maria Ramos of Stamford. Sergio was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army; enlisting in 1950 at Ft. Buchanan in his native Puerto Rico. He was a member of the 65th Infantry Regiment, also known as the "The Borinqueneers" which is a highly regarded Puerto Rican regiment of the United States Army. True to the way Sergio lived his life, the regiment's motto is Honor et Fidelitas, Latin for Honor and Fidelity. The 65th Infantry was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in 2014. Sergio served during the Korean War. In June 2015, Sergio was awarded a medal for Service to America, Global War on Terrorism, Warrior Citizen, and Award of Excellence. Calling hours for family and friends will be held on Monday September 21, 2015 from 4pm to 8pm at Bosak Funeral Home, 453 Shippan Avenue in Stamford, CT. A Christian service will be held at the funeral home on the morning of Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at 11am. Friends and family may arrive at 10am. A funeral procession will leave immediately after the service for a committal service, with Military Honors, at St John R.C. Cemetery in Darien.
