Vera Magyari passed away peacefully in her sleep at her Stamford home on Sunday, July 30, 2017 at the age of 86. She was born on October 24, 1930 in the small village of Pócspetri, Hungary to Gyula Somogyvári and Anna Duncsak, and moved to Budapest where she worked as a pastry chef at the famous Gellért Hotel. She fled Soviet-communist rule in the Hungarian Revolt of 1956 and settled in Stamford, Connecticut, where she raised her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bela Magyari, her parents, her brothers Stephan Somogyvári and Gyula Somogyvári of Hungary, her sisters Jolan Ritli of Hungary, Irene Nagy of Canada, Maria Szepsy of Brookfield, CT, and Anna Toth of Hungary. She is survived by her three sons, Julius Magyari, Joseph Magyari, and William Magyari of Stamford, their wives, Patricia Magyari, Amber Magyari, and Yvonne Magyari, and six grandchildren, Julius Magyari, Jr, Jennifer Magyari, Stephen Magyari, Kellie Magyari, Jodie Magyari, and Emily Magyari. Vera had many talents and was an accomplished cook, seamstress and gardener. She will be remembered for her strength, and for the unconditional love and nurturing she provided her family. She will be deeply missed. The family will receive friends at Bosak Funeral Home, 453 Shippan Avenue, in Stamford on Friday, August 4th from 4pm and 8pm. A Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 5th at 10 am at Saint Bridget of Ireland Church, 278 Strawberry Hill Ave, in Stamford. A private burial for family will follow.
