Born on November 13, 1963, in Medellín, Colombia, Alvaro was the youngest of sixteen children. As child number sixteen, he grew up surrounded by siblings, family, and a strong sense of community that shaped the man he became. He carried the values of family, resilience, generosity, and hard work throughout his life and remained deeply proud of his Colombian roots. Anyone who crossed paths with Alvaro quickly learned two things: he never met a stranger, and he always believed life should be enjoyed. With his cheerful disposition and glass-half-full outlook, he had a way of lifting spirits and turning ordinary days into something worth celebrating. Alvaro dedicated many years to Jaguar of Darien, where his strong work ethic earned him the respect of many. Later, he ventured out on his own in the construction field, building not just projects, but a reputation for determination and pride in his work. He was a hardworking handyman whose skilled hands could fix just about anything, but those who knew him best will remember so much more than the work he did. He was a man who enjoyed life’s simple pleasures and found joy in bringing people together. He had a deep love for music and dancing. Whether at a family gathering, a celebration, or simply enjoying one of his favorite songs, Alvaro could always be found moving to the rhythm. Alvaro didn’t just dance, he took over the dance floor. With energy and zero hesitation, he danced like no one was watching, and made sure everyone else joined in anyway. His smile, energy, and love of life were contagious and brought happiness to those around him. Alvaro was also a devoted soccer enthusiast and a lifelong supporter of the Colombian National Team. He rarely missed a chance to see the Colombian national team play in the United States. Watching Colombia play was never just about the game, it was about pride, passion, and staying connected to the country he loved so dearly. Win or lose, with unwavering loyalty, he cheered like it was a championship game every time. Some of Alvaro’s happiest moments were spent surrounded by family, music playing in the background, and something cooking on the grill. He was a great cook and self-declared master of the grill, he believed no gathering was complete without good food, loud music, and even louder laughter. He was the kind of host who made sure everyone had a plate in their hand and a smile on their face. He loved feeding the people he cared about. Whether he was preparing a large family meal or grilling outdoors on a summer afternoon, he found joy in seeing everyone gathered together. For those who knew him, the smell of food on the grill, the sound of laughter, and the warmth of being together will always be a reminder of Alvaro and the love he shared so freely. For over 30 years, Alvaro was a proud and devoted parishioner of St. Benedict–Our Lady of Montserrat Church. He worked tirelessly to support his community, always ready to lend a hand, organize, or contribute in any way he could. Above all else, Alvaro was a devoted father. He leaves behind his loving daughter, Mariana, who stood by his side throughout his illness and cared for him with unwavering love, dignity, and devotion. Their bond was one of deep love, loyalty, and friendship. Caring for her father during his final years was both the greatest challenge and the greatest honor of her life. Through every difficult day, she remained by his side, ensuring he was cared for, protected, and loved. In recent years, Alvaro faced the challenges of dementia. While the disease changed many things, it never changed the love his family felt for him or the memories they shared. He will be remembered not for his illness, but for the vibrant, loving, and spirited man he was throughout his life. Alvaro will be remembered for his warm heart, sense of humor, generous spirit, and the countless lives he touched. His family finds comfort in knowing that he is now at peace. While his absence leaves an immeasurable void, his legacy lives on in every dance, every soccer match, every family meal, and every story shared by those who loved him. Alvaro will be remembered for his humor, his generosity, his contagious smile, and his ability to turn any moment into a memory. He lived fully, loved deeply, and left a mark that will not be forgotten Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 24th from 4pm to 8pm at Bosak Funeral Home & Cremation, 453 Shippan Avenue, Stamford, CT. A Prayer Service will be held at 7pm at the funeral home. Interment will be private.
