Carlos Alberto Acevedo Velasquez, age 67, of Stamford, CT, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 11, 2026, surrounded by love. Carlos was born on August 8, 1958, in Medellin, Colombia, the beloved son of Luis Alfonso Acevedo and Maria Manuela Velasquez Acevedo. From an early age, Carlos carried with him a warmth and kindness that would define his life and touch everyone he met. For more than 30 years, Carlos proudly worked as a chef at ShopRite Grocery, a career he truly loved. ShopRite was more than a workplace to him—it was family. Carlos was deeply respected for his dedication, responsibility, and work ethic, and he was cherished by colleagues and customers alike. His passion for cooking and service was matched only by his positive spirit and generous heart. Carlos was known as a loving, joyful, and dependable presence both at work and at home. He was a devoted husband, a caring stepfather, a beloved son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. Carlos had a rare gift for making people feel seen, welcomed, and loved, and his kindness left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him. He is survived by his loving husband, Alberto De León; his stepchildren, Yilma and Roger Vogel, Yamatzy and Chris De León-Mettee, Yuri and Jillian De León, and Yisbel and Patrick De León-Traylor; and his cherished step-grandchildren, Ryan and Sarah Vogel, Ross and Abigail Vogel, Zackary Sudler, Yesamine De León-Mettee, Michaela Traylor, Jazmine Sudler, and Christopher DeLeon-Mettee and Nicolas De León. He was also blessed with a great step-grandchild, Rory Vogel. Carlos is also survived by his siblings: Nolberto and Olga Acevedo; Luis Alfonso and Miriam Acevedo; Luz Elena Acevedo and Dagoberto Sepulveda; Piedad Acevedo; Jorge and Patricia Acevedo; Diana Acevedo and Luis Garcia; and Betty Acevedo. He leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews, including Ana Montoya, Isabel Acevedo, and Luis Andres Garcia locally, as well as 11 more in Colombia. He was a devoted godfather to his beloved godson, Emmanuel Montoya. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Carlos’s life and legacy. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 14th, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Bosak Funeral Home & Cremation, 453 Shippan Avenue, Stamford, CT. A Celebration of Life Mass will take place on Thursday, January 15th, at 10:00 am at St. Mary Church, 566 Elm Street, Stamford, CT.
