Florence M Penn

Florence M. “Flo” Penn, 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on May 9, 2014 at Sylvia’s Hospice House in Ocala, Fla. Flo was born in Greenwich, CT on Sept 7, 1929 to the late Gertrude and Ronald Watson. She graduated from Greenwich High School in 1948 and went on to marry her childhood sweetheart William R. “Bob” Penn. Flo enjoyed playing sports but excelled in softball, playing for “Trepp’s”, which was coached by her husband, and went to be Greenwich Town Champs for several years. In 1984, she moved to Ocala, with her late husband, where her love of sports continued; she played horseshoes, shuffleboard, enjoyed bowling, swimming and playing cards. Flo remained a loyal NY Giants and NY Yankees fan. She was also very involved in her community. She took great pleasure in volunteering at the Palm Gardens, where she would host ice-cream socials. Flo was a member of the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program’s Swat Team (seniors with available time) helping with bulk mailing for many area agencies. She could always be counted on to help Brother’s Keeper with Thanksgiving and Christmas food bagging for the needy. She also volunteered at the Ocala Health & Rehabilitation where she called “bingo” once a week for 16 years and was member of the Moose Lodge. She took great pleasure in game playing with her children and grandchildren which became a very special part of their lives and will always be cherished. In addition to her husband and parents, Flo was predeceased by her son Kenneth R. of Greenwich, CT and her sister Dorothy Zygmont of Banksville, NY. She is survived by her sons, Russell (Deborah) of Greenwich, CT, Richard and William, both of Ocala, Fla; grandchildren, Russell Penn, Jr (Jamie) of Greenwich, CT, Christopher Penn (Brianne) of Stamford, CT, Richard Penn, Jr (Genevieve); a granddaughter Danielle Penn of Port Orange, Fla; and two great-grandsons Zachary Penn of Greenwich, CT and Ryan Penn of Stamford, CT. Family will receive relatives and friends at the Bosak Funeral Home, 453 Shippan Avenue, Stamford, CT on Saturday, June 14th from 8:30 am to 10 am with a funeral service at 10am. Interment will follow at Putnam Cemetery, in Greenwich, CT. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hospice of Marion County, 3231 S.W. 34th Ave, Ocala, Fla 34474.
