Rafael Nieves

Rafael A Nieves, age 79 of Stamford, CT, beloved husband of Teresa Nieves, passed away peacefully November 22, 2024. He resided in Stamford for more than 60 years. Rafael was born November 19, 1945 in Isabella, Puerto Rico – a beautiful seaside town in the northwest corner of the Island. Rafael moved to Stamford at an early age with his mother and siblings after the death of his father. Despite not finishing a traditional education, Rafael used his strength, determination, and charm to become an invaluable employee at Clairol for 36 years. While he worked hard, he always had time to get a good laugh. He loved working with his nephew and so many others who came to appreciate Rafael for his kindness and sense of humor. He took his passion for cars and ended up with his own tire service business – his second career. He was successful due in large part to his willingness to help others, do the job right and be available in a pinch. It was even more so for his family. Rafael was a father figure to many more than just his three girls. He spent much of his free time at the Cummings Beach Boat Club or out on the water fishing with family and many friends. If anyone ever asked for help, he never hesitated – no matter the time or what else he may have been doing at the moment. Rafael was ever present in the lives of his loved ones and will be deeply missed for many years to come. Rafael is survived by his loving wife of nearly 60 years, Teresa, as well as their three daughters, Elizabeth (Greg) Gorman, Betsy Nieves and Claribel Benjamin. Rafael also had four grandchildren, Brandon Gorman, Jessica (Rocco) Barbaro, Amanda Benjamin and Olivia Benjamin. Rafael also got to hold his first great-grandchild, Domenico Barbaro, who arrived just weeks before his passing. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 1st from 12pm – 3pm at Bosak Funeral Home, 453 Shippan Avenue, Stamford, CT. A prayer service with attendees invited to speak will be celebrated from 3pm – 4pm at the funeral home.
