Sheila Dexter Samson

Sheila Dexter Samson, age 95, entered into eternal rest with the Lord on February 13, 2025. The beloved wife of the late Michael Samson, Sheila was born at Greenwich Hospital on December 19, 1929. She was the daughter of the late Julia Randall Dexter and sister to the late Nathan “Buddy“ Dexter. Sheila was a life long resident of Stamford, CT and attended Stamford High School, Class of 1947. She graduated from Fannie A. Smith Teacher Training School and was Senior Class President. She received her bachelor’s degree from Danbury State College, which now is Western Connecticut State University. Sheila was employed as a Kindergarten Teacher in both the Norwalk and Stamford Public School Systems. She retired from the Stamford Public School System in 1989 after 30 years of teaching. Sheila then worked part-time at the Registrar of Voters office for many years. She was a member of the St. Clement’s Guild, was a Eucharist Minister, a First Grade Catechist and helped on various committees at her parish. In 2006 she was Mother of the Year, an honor given by the Stamford District Council of Catholic Women, for her untiring work at St. Clement’s Parish. She enjoyed going to the Bennett Cancer Center for the Expression Through Arts Program for the arts and crafts and painting programs and enjoyed meeting all the people that came to the program. She had numerous paintings and crafts in the Center’s yearly calendar. Sheila was also a member of her granddaughter, Heather’s Girl Scout Troop. Known to all the girls as Grandma Sheila she went on various trips with the troop and helped teach the girls how to knit for one of their Interest Project Patches. She loved being with the girls and helping out at various functions that the troop participated in. She is survived by her daughter, Emily Samson, her son, Timothy Samson and his wife Tish (Dec) Samson, four grandchildren, Michael Bankowski and his wife Abigail Fry, Heather (Bankowski) Cotter and her husband Christopher Cotter, Rebecca (Samson) Santiago and her husband Jon Santiago and Dana Samson, two great-granddaughters, Rylee and Emelia Santiago, several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 24th from 4-8pm.with a prayer service at 7pm at Bosak Funeral Home, 453 Shippan Ave, Stamford, CT.
